    • Pinyin initials and finals
    • The four tones
      • First tone - mā / ma1
      • Second tone - má / ma2
      • Third tone - mǎ / ma3
      • Fourth tone - mà / ma4
  • Use basic greetings in Chinese.
    • 你好 nǐ hǎo (ní hǎo) - hello!
    • 再见 zài jiàn - Goodbye.
    • 你好吗?nǐ hǎo mā (ní hǎo mā) - How are you?
    • 我很好 wǒ hěn hǎo (wǒ hén hǎo) - I'm fine.
  • Ask and Answer questions about names.
    • 你叫什么名字?nǐ jiào shén me míng zi?
    • 我叫(Simon)。wǒ jiào (Simon).
  • Week 2

  • Review our phrases from our last lesson.
  • Investigate the location of China in Asia.
  • Identify similarities and differences between China & New Zealand.
  • Discuss ideas about Chinese Culture.
  • Week 3

  • Investigate how Chinese characters represent words and sounds.
  • Count from 1-10 in Chinese
  • Write the characters from 1-10
  • Play traditional Chinese number games
  • Week 4

  • Combine our knowledge of the numbers 1-10 to create the numbers 11-99
  • Use our number from 1-20 to play a Chinese numbers game
  • Ask and answer questions about age using:
  • Make posters representing each of the characters 1-10
  • Demonstrate our learned language by giving a brief, videoed introduction using:
    • 你好
    • 我叫 Simon。
    • 我四十一岁了。
    • 再见!
  • Week 5

  • Review counting from 1-99
  • Review key phrases:
  • New vocabulary:
    •            I, you, he, she
